"Marching Band was one of the coolest and best things I've done in High School! It taught me how to be a leader and to "pull my own weight". I am definitely a better person for having done it. I also met most of my very best friends through Marching Band, they are hands down the most hilarious, talented, hard-working, and awesome people I know!"

This is probably the most fun aspect of our band program each year. Our 87-member, volunteer marching band performs entertaining, yet artistic music selected by the student membership. We travel off-site to Camp Living Waters in Luther, Michigan each summer and spend the week learning marching and musical fundamentals as well as the first 2-3 segments of our half-time show. The remainder of the show is learned in the first few weeks of the school year.
Many students feel they won't have time to march and want to focus on academics, sports, etc. Actually, the opposite is true - Marching Band makes you prioritize your time better, become more intentional and focused on the activities you are involved in, and acclimates you to the high school environment including academics, clubs, spots and other activities. We typically have several of the academic top 10 and many Varsity athletes involved in marching band each year. Marching Band is also a very positive, welcoming environment that lends itself to having students that want to succeed and stay focused.
Marching Band also allows the freshmen to come into the high school before the year begins and become acclimated to the school as well as meeting and mixing with sophomores, juniors and seniors and making friends. Our freshmen return from camp and begin the school year with confidence and poise after having spent almost an entire month with their sections and coming in and out of the school for rehearsals.
Marching Band is also one of the most rewarding things our band does. This activity, although difficult and frustrating at times, is full of great memories from Band Camp, Monday Night rehearsals, Invitationals and Festivals, and having fun in the stands at games. Students who march all 4 years of band get much more than P.E. credit - they gain life-long friendships and great lessons in hard work, dedication, discipline, teamwork, good sportsmanship, patience, time management, prioritization, memorization, pride and school spirit.
The hardest year is the freshmen year, but it gets so much easier after that first season is over. It is SO WORTH IT TO BE IN MARCHING BAND!! It's not perfect and there will be frustration and pain, but some of the greatest things we can do involve pain and sacrifice. The camp experience in itself is worth the try, but the reward of the final weeks of the season including our Invitational performance, Marching Festival, Senior Night and the Fall Concert is the culminating pay-off of everything we worked for since early August. Once you've done a season, you'll want more. Just ask the sophomores (nearly all) who are returning in 2016 after their first season.
Sign-ups for the fall marching band typically starts in April and spots must be assigned in early June - so make sure you get your spot in the 2016 BRMB show!!
